Guti wonders: “Why does Real Madrid want to sign Mbappe when they have a better player than him?”

Former Real Madrid star Guti has questioned his former club’s interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe, claiming that they already have a better player than him.

Guti, who currently works as an analyst for Movistar +, DAZN and the popular El Chiringuito programme, made the remark after Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Gotti said: “Vinicius is a phenomenon. He has improved a lot in his finishing and decision making. He is very fast, very bold and very confident. He’s one of the best players in the world right now and has a lot of potential to keep growing. He is a key player for Real Madrid and Brazil.”

Guti then compared Vinicius to Mbappe, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for several years.

He added, “Why do they want Mbappe if we have Vinicius? Mbappe is a great player, but I think Vinicius is better than him. He has more speed, more skill, more goals, more assists. It is more decisive and stable. He fits well with Real Madrid’s style and philosophy.

Guti’s remarks caused an uproar among fans and pundits, who debated whether Vinicius was really superior to Mbappe. The Brazilian winger has scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions this season, while Mbappe has scored 31 goals and assisted seven more for Paris Saint-Germain.

Some praised Gotti for defending Vinicius and showing his loyalty to Real Madrid, while others accused him of being biased and unrealistic. Some also indicated that Guti had changed his mind about Mbappe, as he had previously said that he wished to sign him and Neymar for Real Madrid in 2019.
